how many excuses do you think you make in a day to get out of doing something you have to do? yesterday, i made quite a few. didn't go for a run because my leg hurt, yet i went for a bike ride with ryan instead (ok, so i still did SOMETHING, but i made an excuse to get out of doing what i really needed to do). i didn't finish a journal article because i can just edit it tonight - even though i have 3 others i ALSO have to edit tonight. i hit the snooze alarm for more than an hour and then had to rush to work, which is never a good way to start your day, let alone your week. throughout the course of the day, there were other small excuses i made, and i will inevitably make more today. i'm sure you can all think of some you've made, too. we all do it. well, maybe it's time to stop making excuses and start taking some action.

whether you are "stuck in a rut," if it can "wait until tomorrow," if you're "waiting on someone" to do their part, or you "need more time," whatever your excuse, just get over it. no one is in control of your life but you. get off your butt and do something already. it doesn't have to be big. maybe there's a small task you've been avoiding - why not just take care of it? get it done. start the ball rolling. you have to walk before you can crawl. you can lead a horse to water... oh, sorry,. got caught up in cliches. my point is: STOP MAKING EXCUSES! if you need help with something, ask for it, but don't say you can't do it - you can. do you need support? i can totally cheer you on! need some positive reinforcement? i can tell you what a great job you've done!

look, i am guilty of complaining that nothing gets done, but am i doing anything about it? today i will. no more excuses. this post is really a wake-up call for me, but if someone out there gets a little pep to start up something they've wanted to do, then even better.

this recently happened to me. last week i had 0 motivation for completing a website design. i delayed and delayed and delayed until it was due in 36 hours. i ended up having to draw out the website on paper, away from the computer. 'analog' if you will. it def helped me get focused again. maybe it was just getting away from distractions on the computer.

come to think of it now... in previous 'low motivation periods', i got away from the computer and was able to work (website stuff, doing yardwork, packing, etc).

maybe ask yourself, what's your source of distraction? identify it and spend some time away from it?

you are totally right. sometimes i need to step away from what i have to do and do something i *want* to do before i can focus on the task at hand. i think the technical term is "burnout"! :)

congrats on the move, by the way! your new digs look AWESOME!!!!!!! can't wait to see the new place. :)
